ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY FOR THE TANK STORAGE SECTOR
Specific aspects of the sector, fugitive emissions.
The tank storage industry encounters its biggest air emissions problems during the storage of product in tank farms. Changes in ambient temperature and pressure cause expansion and compression within the tank resulting in the emission of pollutant gas. These are so-called respiratory emissions, gases that become fugitive emissions.
Specific aspects of the sector, emissions from production processes.
The tank storage also leaks pollutant emissions during product loading and unloading, transport (losses through valves, vent holes, pumps to move the product), cleaning the tank itself and the mandatory prior inertisation for the repair or decommissioning of tanks.
Tecam designs technology that combines maximum environmental efficiency and resource optimisation to guarantee maximum productivity.
Vapour Recovery Units (VRU)
VRUs or Vapor Recovery Units are equipment that collect vapours from storage and loading facilities, re-liquefy them and return them in the form of liquid hydrocarbons to storage tanks.
Methods to recover vapors include absorption, condensation, adsorption, and simple cooling.
Gasoline contains Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) that evaporate easily.
Evaporated vapors, in addition to their effects on human health, are harmful for the environment and represent a significant loss of sales.
VRUs or Vapor Recovery Units are equipment that collect vapours from storage and loading facilities, re-liquefy them and return them in the form of liquid hydrocarbons to storage tanks.
VRU Expected values
Gasoline recovery flow:
• In the case of 300m3/h = 309 kg/h
• In the case of 400m3/h = 412 Kg/h
VOC concentration at VRY outlet < 10 g/Nm3
Recovery efficiency = 99%
Pollutants in the tank storage sector
With Tecam you can rest assured. We will eliminate pollutant emissions from storage (tank breathing), product loading and unloading, transport, tank cleaning and inertisation. Put your trust in us: we take responsibility for each and every one of them.
We treat and eliminate:
Volatile organic compounds VOCs, CO, SOx, NOx, MVP2, PM10, HCL, petroleum hydrocarbons, petrol, diesel, chlorinated hydrocarbons, oxygen-free waste gases, wet and corrosive waste gases, odours, halogenated particles and aerosols, hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide, dioxins and furans, particulate matter and alkali compounds.
Tecam’s tailor-made design
You can always count on tailor-made solutions with Tecam and, where necessary, the development of specific components, software and/or materials. Our technicians engage with every project, using their expertise and knowledge to design customised equipment for each case and customer.
No matter how big or complex the problem, Tecam is the technology partner that will provide you with the solutions you need at all times.
Koole Terminals: an example of what we can do for you
Koole Tankstore Minerals is an international hydrocarbon storage company with a total storage capacity of over 3,500,000 cubic metres. Tecam was contracted to reduce Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions generated during gas venting at Koole’s facilities in the port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
We proposed a tailor-made solution based on Regenerative Thermal Oxidation (RTO) technology, which achieved a 99.9 % reduction in the company’s VOC emissions.
Learn more about this success story, which made Tecam winner of the Tank Storage Award in 2020 in the category of “Environmental Performance”.
