As its name suggests, NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material) refers to materials that are naturally radioactive. Certain minerals contain significant levels of natural radionuclides that are extracted and processed during industrial handling. The subsequent processing of these materials can increase their concentration. NORM waste is generated in a variety of sectors and is found in waste metal, sludge, rubble, fluids, etc. It is a common occurrence in the mining and oil and gas extraction industries.
